We are hiring cutting technicians for heavy steel and industrial work. Thick steel sections, plant structures, vessels, piping and mixed steel and concrete, on power stations, mines and industrial plant where a gas axe is too slow, too hot or not allowed.

Oxy cutting experience is useful, but most of what we do avoids heat on purpose, using diamond wire and water jet methods. If you have cut heavy steel on shutdowns or demolition and want to learn the cold methods properly, apply.

DeconCut is Perfect Group's specialist industrial cutting business. We take the cuts other contractors walk away from: sections too big or too heavily reinforced for a normal saw, plant where flame cutting is not allowed, confined and remote spaces, and jobs where the cut sequence has to be engineered and signed off before anyone starts.

    We are hiring in NSW, QLD and WA, including FIFO mining work out of Perth. Pick "Anywhere in Australia" if you will travel.

    What the job is

    • Cutting heavy steel sections, beams, plate, piping and vessels with diamond wire and cold cutting methods.
    • Setting up clamps, guides and rigs on awkward steel.
    • Working with riggers and crane crews to take the cut sections out.
    • Following the permit, isolation and gas testing regime on live or recently live plant.
    • Keeping cut records: section, method, time and consumables.
    • Maintaining the cutting spread and the support gear.

    What we look for

    Tell us what you have actually done. If you are strong on most of this and keen on the rest, still apply.

    • Experience cutting heavy steel on shutdowns, demolition, fabrication or decommissioning.
    • White Card and a driver licence.
    • Working at Heights, Confined Space, EWP, rigging or dogging tickets.
    • Gas test atmospheres and permit to work experience on industrial sites is a real plus.
    • Happy to travel for shutdowns and work long shifts while the plant is down.
    • Careful around stored energy, and not afraid to stop a job.

    What it pays

    Pay depends on experience and tickets. Tell us what you are on and we will be straight with you. Travel work pays more, and there is interstate work for people who want it.
