Shutdown and Decommissioning Cutting Jobs

  • Shutdown and decommissioning cutting technician
  • Power stations, mines, refineries and plant
  • Shutdown rosters and travel
  • AU work rights required
Apply now, takes 2 minutes

We are hiring cutting technicians for shutdowns and decommissioning. Planned outages on power stations, mines and processing plant, and the dismantling of plant that is being retired, where the cuts have to happen inside a tight window and to an engineered sequence.

Shutdown people know the drill: long days, a hard finish date and a permit for everything. If you have worked shutdowns as a cutter, rigger, fitter or trade assistant and want to specialise in cutting, this is a good way in.

DeconCut is Perfect Group's specialist industrial cutting business. We take the cuts other contractors walk away from: sections too big or too heavily reinforced for a normal saw, plant where flame cutting is not allowed, confined and remote spaces, and jobs where the cut sequence has to be engineered and signed off before anyone starts.

Fill in the form below and someone will ring you back within one business day. It takes about two minutes. Attach a CV if you have one handy, or reply to the confirmation email with it.

    The basics

Two minutes. Everything marked with a star is required, and the more you fill in the faster we can place you.

We are hiring in NSW, QLD and WA, including FIFO mining work out of Perth. Pick "Anywhere in Australia" if you will travel.
You must already have the right to work in Australia. We are not able to sponsor visas.
Pick the closest one. The next questions change to match.

These are compulsory. They are how we match you to a job.

Washer cutting, surface prep, pumps and guns at 500 to 3,000 bar.
Cold cutting, no heat, no hot work permit.

    References and availability

A work reference or a character reference. Three is ideal, one is enough to get started.
Fly-in fly-out, drive-in drive-out, or away for a stint. The away jobs usually pay better.
Pick the one that suits you best right now.

Compulsory. A few lines is fine, but give us real employers and real jobs. It is what we search when a role comes up.

    What the job is

    • Cutting concrete and steel to the shutdown or dismantling sequence, on time and inside the permit.
    • Preparing the work front: isolations confirmed, exclusion zones set and rigging points ready.
    • Wire sawing, wall sawing, core drilling or cold cutting, depending on the job.
    • Helping rig and remove cut sections with the crane and rigging crews.
    • Cleaning up and segregating waste as you go.
    • Daily reporting to the cutting supervisor.

    What we look for

Tell us what you have actually done. If you are strong on most of this and keen on the rest, still apply.

    • Shutdown or decommissioning experience in power, mining, oil and gas or heavy industry.
    • White Card and a driver licence.
    • Working at Heights, Confined Space, EWP, rigging or dogging, and gas test atmospheres.
    • Cutting experience, or trade experience and a willingness to learn our methods.
    • Happy with shutdown rosters, FIFO or DIDO, and time away.
    • Fitness for work and drug and alcohol testing as the site requires.

    What it pays

Pay depends on experience and tickets. Tell us what you are on and we will be straight with you. Travel work pays more, and there is interstate work for people who want it.

    Other names for this job

Companies label this role differently and so do candidates. If your last job was called shutdown worker, shutdown cutter, decommissioning technician, plant decommissioning, dismantling technician, shutdown trade assistant, industrial shutdown jobs, FIFO shutdown, and the work matches what is above, this is the same job. We hire on what you have done, not on the title.

What we are like to work for

DeconCut is new, and that is the honest pitch. You would be joining at the start of a specialist business that sits inside a group that already has the safety system, the certifications, the plant and the people. We are building the crews now and we want operators who will help us run serious cutting plant properly. The people who get in early are the ones who will run the crews as it grows.

    Work rights

You need the right to work in Australia. We do not sponsor visas and we do not charge anyone a fee to apply or to be placed, ever. If someone asks you for money to get a job with us, it is not us. Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people are encouraged to apply.

    What happens after you apply

    • You get an email straight away confirming we have your application.
    • Someone rings you within one business day, on the mobile number you give us.
    • If you did not attach a CV, reply to that confirmation email with it. It is the fastest way to get in front of us.
    • We keep your details on file. Even if there is nothing today, we come back to people when the right job lands.

    Where the job is

Our yards are at 23 Aranda Street, Slacks Creek in Brisbane and 2C Factory Street, Granville in Sydney. The work goes where the structures are: tunnels, bridges, power stations, mines, refineries and industrial plant up and down the East Coast and interstate, so expect travel and time away on the bigger jobs.

    Other roles

Read about the work itself on our service page. We are also hiring: Diamond Wire Saw Operator, Tunnel and TBM Cutting Technician, Heavy Steel and Industrial Cutting Technician, Hydrodemolition Operator, Cold Cutting Technician, High Hazard and Remote Cutting Technician, Cutting Engineer. Every DeconCut role is on the Work With Us page.
