- Cutting and decommissioning engineer
- Brisbane or Sydney based, national travel
- Cut sequences, temporary works, load paths
- AU work rights required
We are hiring a cutting engineer. The engineering is what sets DeconCut apart. Before we cut anything big, we work out the cut sequence, the temporary works, the load path and the lifting plan, and we get them signed off. That is what lets clients bring us in early instead of pricing three saw operators on a rate.
You will write the methodologies, work with the client's engineers and our project engineers, price the cutting scope with the estimators, and be on site when the first cut goes in. Civil or structural engineers from demolition, heavy lifting, bridges, tunnelling or decommissioning will fit best.
DeconCut is Perfect Group's specialist industrial cutting business. We take the cuts other contractors walk away from: sections too big or too heavily reinforced for a normal saw, plant where flame cutting is not allowed, confined and remote spaces, and jobs where the cut sequence has to be engineered and signed off before anyone starts.
Fill in the form below and someone will ring you back within one business day. It takes about two minutes. Attach a CV if you have one handy, or reply to the confirmation email with it.

What the job is
- Writing cutting and dismantling methodologies: cut sequence, block sizes, temporary works, load paths and lifting studies.
- Coordinating with the client's structural engineers and our temporary works designers for sign off.
- Working with the estimators to scope and price the cutting.
- Running trial cuts and building our own data on what the machines actually do.
- Site support at start up and at the critical cuts.
- Writing the technical sections of tenders, and the case studies from finished jobs.
What we look for
Tell us what you have actually done. If you are strong on most of this and keen on the rest, still apply.
- A civil or structural engineering degree.
- Experience in demolition, decommissioning, heavy lifting, bridges, tunnelling or temporary works.
- Able to write and check method statements, lift studies and temporary works documents.
- Comfortable on site in PPE as much as in the office.
- A driver licence and happy to travel nationally.
- Chartered status, or working towards it, is a plus, not a must.
What it pays
Pay depends on experience and tickets. Tell us what you are on and we will be straight with you. Travel work pays more, and there is interstate work for people who want it.
Other names for this job
Companies label this role differently and so do candidates. If your last job was called cutting engineer, decommissioning engineer, demolition engineer, temporary works engineer, methodology engineer, structural engineer demolition, project engineer cutting, and the work matches what is above, this is the same job. We hire on what you have done, not on the title.
What we are like to work for
DeconCut is new, and that is the honest pitch. You would be joining at the start of a specialist business that sits inside a group that already has the safety system, the certifications, the plant and the people. We are building the crews now and we want operators who will help us run serious cutting plant properly. The people who get in early are the ones who will run the crews as it grows.
Work rights
You need the right to work in Australia. We do not sponsor visas and we do not charge anyone a fee to apply or to be placed, ever. If someone asks you for money to get a job with us, it is not us. Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people are encouraged to apply.
What happens after you apply
- You get an email straight away confirming we have your application.
- Someone rings you within one business day, on the mobile number you give us.
- If you did not attach a CV, reply to that confirmation email with it. It is the fastest way to get in front of us.
- We keep your details on file. Even if there is nothing today, we come back to people when the right job lands.
Where the job is
Based at our Brisbane yard in Slacks Creek or our Sydney yard in Granville, whichever suits you, with travel to site across Australia. The work goes where the structures are: tunnels, bridges, power stations, mines, refineries and industrial plant.
